History and tradition
Palazzo dei Normanni is home to one of the world’s oldest parliaments and a major attraction for visitors to Palermo. We celebrated its rich history with projection mapping across the entire Renaissance façade, connecting the Palace’s story with that of Saint Rosalia and, through her, the city itself.
Palermo’s residents have not always felt connected to the Palace. Often excluded from leading institutional roles and the centres of regional power, many viewed it with resentment. Fondazione Federico II and the Presidency of the Sicilian Regional Assembly invited us to join an initiative to reconnect the city with its palace, beginning with their shared devotion to Saint Rosalia.
Norman Palermo
The story traces the Palace’s history from its origins as a Punic/Roman castrum and the Arab al Qasr. It focuses on the Norman period as an example of good governance and explores its connection with Rosalia’s life.
