A format that keeps evolving

The 2025 edition of Il Teatro della Luce demonstrates how the format can explore new themes each year while retaining its distinctive identity. Through light, the project continues to express a contemporary, vibrant vision of Palermo that people can share.

The installation becomes a visual and spiritual antidote to the harshness of winter, a song of hope celebrating the earth’s generosity even in the most difficult months: golden citrus fruits, which brighten Sicilian winters, evoke abundance and resilience, while flowers, emblems of rebirth, suggest the perpetual cycle of life and nature.

A TRIBUTE TO ARAB-NORMAN ART

The 2025 edition introduced a theme inspired by Palermo’s Arab-Norman heritage, recognised by UNESCO as a cultural route of universal value and a reflection of the city’s many historical and cultural layers. The theme looks ahead to the European Year of the Normans in 2027. Geometric patterns, ornament and imagery from Sicily’s Norman past illuminated the Baroque façades of Quattro Canti, drawing on the mosaics of the Martorana and the animals and decorations of the Sala di Ruggero in Palazzo dei Normanni. Light tells a story of Palermo’s Mediterranean identity, working sensitively with the architecture without overwhelming it.
