The first immersive video mapping performance at Segesta
Phos – Io sono fuoco is a large-scale immersive installation designed for the interior of the Temple of Aphrodite Urania in Segesta Archaeological Park. Beneath Segesta’s starry skies, video mapping fills the temple with a sense of magic.
The performance combines acting, music, immersive video mapping and illustration. At the heart of the concept is an original theatrical text by Dario Muratore, who personifies fire and invites the audience to reflect on its value. Starting with Greek mythology, the narrative explores the relationship between humanity and fire, using state-of-the-art technology to create images that bloom from the columns, flames that caress without harming, and symbols of rebirth.

FIRE BECOMES A STORY
When the balance between humanity and nature breaks down, progress can become destructive. Phos explores this relationship through the symbolism of fire and the stories of myth. The show was created in response to the devastating wildfire that, a year earlier, stopped just metres from the Temple of Segesta but reduced the archaeological park’s Mediterranean scrubland to ash. Combining different media, it treats the monument with care: images bloom from its columns, projected flames brush its surfaces without harming them, and symbols of rebirth emerge. The aim was to celebrate the temple by turning the memory of destruction into a project with a clear ethical message. Fire can sustain life when used responsibly, but it can also bring death and devastation. Through acting, music and illustration, this immersive video mapping show offers a way to heal the wound left by the fire and imagine nature’s recovery.
