A dive into magic
Earth celebrates the beauty of our planet through art, without overlooking the dangers and upheavals facing its inhabitants. It offers a cathartic journey into a world of extraordinary richness that we risk losing forever.
At a difficult time during the pandemic, the success and positive response to the live-streamed Earth – Diving Into Magic event reaffirmed the collective need for cultural and artistic experiences.

A changing planet
We took the words of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’ as our starting point for imagining Earth: ‘If we consider the complexity of the ecological crisis and its many causes, we should recognise that solutions cannot come from a single way of interpreting and transforming reality. We must also draw on the diverse cultural riches of peoples, on art and poetry, on inner life and spirituality.’ The performance explores the relationship between humanity and nature: the interdependence of the planet and the beings that inhabit it. The relationship between human beings and other living creatures was a theme dear to Saint Francis, expressed in his Canticle of the Creatures.
